Hi Brent,

Without being scornful about the worth of agencies, they don't seem to have
been doing anything other than selling my email address to spammers.

I just noticed your message (6 weeks late).

I've had more luck with selling freeware than shareware. It seems to me that
there's a lot of money out there but nobody seems to have any to spend. The
magazine coverdisk didn't seem to generate many more hits to my site. I'm wondering
whether writing and selling spamware might be more profitable (though antisocial).

Hi Rhys,
I was wondering if you had got yourself a programming job yet. I remember
you were looking for work and that you had written a few applications. One
that even made the front cover of a prominent PC magazine I believe. This
in itself sounds pretty impressive, and if you didn't / havn't found work
with that accomplishment under your belt then I was wondering if you would
like to share with us what your thoughts are on this matter.
cheers,
Brent

There aren't many people that think highly of recruitment agencies, and most
(people) that I've spoken to have a story to tell.

Its ashame that the magazine cover thing hasn't paid off yet, and I say yet
because there may still be an opportunity where you might benefit from it.
Good luck with your freeware and shareware stuff. I'm looking at going down
that path soon.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

From what I've seen, the problems with shareware and freeware are:

Freeware - Everybody takes but nobody contributes ideas or code in return.
Shareware - Everybody and his dog downloads and uses it during the free
period then uninstalls or hacks it when it's time to pay.

However, I'm hoping that employers will look fondly upon libraries of
freeware and shareware as being demonstrations of the programmers
competance. It's also worth noting that employers probably scan the net for
an employee's name to see what kind of thing they've written on the web.
Thus, any silly stuff will probably count as a black mark - even if it was
20 years prior.

My current programming project is a resume blaster that will blast agencies
with resumes once a month and send a nag letter once a week, automatically.
It'll also filter their responses by content, sending auto-replies whenever
possible - just like they do now.

If that works, I'll make the program available. Anybody else tried such an
approach?
